I used this for a cat…Not sure if freshness makes a difference, but my experience at the beginning of the bag was a bit different than the last of the bag. At first, this was great and smelled like hay. But, as we made it through the bag - it didn’t last as long, retained the urine smell faster and needed to be changed more often. Adding more or using less did not help with the speed of smell. I like the idea of this, but maybe smaller bags may be better.
These pellets are excellent quality, and agreed with every single one of our more finicky critters. We have a bunny who is an outright snob about bedding, but was happy as can be with these pellets. They're easy to clean, absorb liquids and odors well, weigh nothing and are easy to store, and whisk moisture away from your pets to keep them healthy and hygienic. These are priced a little higher than average, but worth it. They really cut down on moisture and keep the cage smelling fresh. They're easy to use and easy to clean. Highly recommend.
I have multiple uses for organic pelleted straw litter. Firstly, I figured it would be a good backup absorbent for oil spills at the garage. Whenever I'm working on any of the trucks or machines, I always seem to end up with some kind of oil on the floor. Usually, I just have standard absorbency clay for this mishap. However, sometimes we run out. It's good to have a backup just in case. Secondly, I figured it would make for a good mulch for my potted plants. The organic pelleted straw litter arrived with a cut in its bag, so a good amount had leaked into the box. The bag is also pretty difficult to open and reseal. However, the product itself is great! It works just as I was hoping and absorbs a lot of liquid! It's very cool to watch the little pellets expand as they fill with my dirty and burnt transmission fluid that poured out all over the garage floor just moments earlier. It also works great as a mulch. I like that it's all organic, so I have reassurance that it won't leech any harmful chemicals into my plants and further my food. I'm able to put a light layer on top of the soil in the pots. As it gets watered, it expands and keeps the soil under it moist and cooler. After it dries out, it's ready to be reabsorbed and stays a pretty good layer for most of the season. All in all, I really like the organic pelleted straw litter. It seems to be high quality, and I'm really happy that it's organic. It works great for fluid absorbency and as a mulch, both things I was hoping to use it for. I'm happy with the results and would recommend the organic pelleted straw litter for mulching certain outdoor potted plants.
We're always on the lookout for different types of litter for our 3 cat household, hoping to find the perfect balance of cost, odor, dust, tracking, etc. This one does great for dust and tracking, but doesn't do well (for us) on cost and odor control. The pellets are pretty big, so I expected the kitties to struggle to use it, but they took right to it. Because the pellets are so large, there's literally zero tracking. There's also no dust that I've seen; some litters we've used leave a fine powder all over the litter box room; this doesn't do that. I think it gets a medium rating on odor control; it works pretty good at soaking up pee, but because it's so chonky, it's not great at covering up poos. Price is on the higher side for a cat litter; though I do think this on is more suited for other animals.
I am actually thrilled with this litter, but... you have to make sure if you are using this for bunnies that you have it in a spot they can't get to. I'm always looking for a new litter for my bunny boys, especially if it perports to having odor control, and these looked like they could do the trick. However, as they are straw, they look and must taste just like bunny food. I have an inkling they might try snacking on these so I offered them to the boys as treats first and sure enough, they chowed down. So I make sure to put them in the litter box with a plastic grate over it, so they can't get to the iniditidual pieces. It is easy clean and has great absorbency, and seems to work really well. Again I have noticed a difference in odor control as well. A great product and I would think awesome for cats, but make sure you don't leave this anywhere where bunnies can snack on them unsupervised.
